Massive 8.9 Earthquake Sparks Tsunami in Northern Japan

A massive earthquake of 8.9 magnitude hit the northeast coast of Japan on Friday afternoon, triggering a 10-metre tsunami that washed away houses, cars, farm building and left devastation in its wake.  This is considered to be the biggest earthquake that struck Japan in 140 years.

TV footage showed massive flooding with hundreds of cars, boats and even tall building being carried along with water in various locations along the coast. A large ship swept away by the tsunami rammed directly into a breakwater in Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture, according to footage on public broadcaster NHK.
There were several strong aftershocks, and tall buildings in the capital Tokyo shook violently leaving panic among people.

Officials were trying to assess possible damage from the quake but had no immediate details.

The Philippines, Taiwan and Indonesia all issued tsunami alerts, reviving memories of the giant tsunami which struck Asia in 2004. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued alerts for countries as far away as Colombia and Peru.

Varun Gandhi ties the knot with Yamini Roy in Varanasi

Finally , the wedding bells are on in Nehru-Gandhi family. Indira Gandhi grand son and Sanjay-Maneka Gandhi’s son Varun Gandhi tied nuptial knot with Yamini Roy Chowdhary on Sunday (6^th March, 2011) morning in Varanasi.

The wedding ceremony began at 6. 30 am at the Kashi Kankotoshwar temple near Hanuman ghat . It was not a high profile marriage as only some of the close relatives have attended the marriage.  But Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and Priyanka did not attend the marriage. The wedding took place infront of Kanchi Shankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswat and later blessed the newly wedded couple.

Varun was seen in a silk ‘kurta’ and ‘dhoti’ with saffron orange while the bride, Yamini wore a pink saree. The saree was presented by Indira Gandhi to Maneka Gandhi forty years ago.

Currently, Varun Gandhi is a BJP MP, for Pililibhit constituency in Uttar Pradesh while Yamini is a graphic designer.

Vidya Balan to Act with Rajinikanth

Talented actress Vidya Balan is all set to act with Rajinikanth in the film ‘Rana’. K S Ravi Kumar is directing the film. It is learnt that lissome beauty Deepika Padulone and South Indian veteran actress Rekha have been finalized as the leading ladies of the film. Now, the latest buzz is that Vidya Balan confirmed as one of the heroine.

In the film, Rajinikanth will be seen in a triple role. It is learnt that director K S Ravi Kumar is considering Rekha for older Rajinikanth, Vidya Balan for middle-aged man and Deepika Padukone for young man.

The most interesting part is that all of the three heroines have a south Indian background and also much familiar with Indian audience as well. ‘Rana’ is being made in three languages – Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Sonu Sood plays the villain in the film. A R Rahman is composing the music for the film while Ratnavelu is handling Cinematography.

Rana is jointly producing by Eros International and Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Studios. Pvt. Ltd and it is expected to move on to floors in April.

Bollywood Actor Goga Kapoor Expired

Popular villain and character artist of Bollywood Goga Kapoor, also known as Ravinder Kapoor died on Thursday due to serious illness. He was suffering with health problems from the past six months and breathed his last on his residence in Mumbai. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. His youngest daughter Payal is also an actor.

Born on 15th December 1940, actor Goga Kapoor has started his acting career from theatre. He got his first break with the film ‘Jwala’ in 1971. He mostly acted in films starring Amitabh Bachchan in 1970′s and 80′s. His career best character is as Dinakar Rao in the film ‘Agneepath’.

The 70 year old actor was one of the active committee members of Cine Artistes’ Association.

Some of the films of Goga include Laawaris, Dosthana, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Kabhi Haa Kabh Naa, Pathar Ke Phool, Ganga Jamuna Aur Saraswati, Shahensha, Phool Aur Kante, and Run. Darwaaza Bandh Rakho is the last movie.
